Who chooses outpatient treatment - and why?

While Clean & Sober Recovery Services has offered residential treatment since 2008, our intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is brand new. It’s a versatile program that people can use to reclaim their health in a number of ways.

First, let’s look at the basics of intensive outpatient treatment: Participants in our IOP attend day and evening classes for  for up to twelve weeks. In those day or evening classes, participants receive one-on-one and group counseling from one of the CSRS certified drug and alcohol counselors. Using a cognitive behavioral therapy approach, they tackle topics such as the disease of addiction, life skills, family recovery, anger management, triggers and relapse prevention. They’ll get connected to the local twelve-step community. And they’ll build their muscle for sustained recovery through life’s ups and downs.

Who chooses outpatient treatment, and why?

Sometimes people who struggle with alcohol or other drugs simply can’t commit to living in a residential treatment center because they have family obligations or they can’t leave their jobs. But they can reclaim their health by attending daily or evening counseling sessions in our outpatient treatment center.

Sometimes insurance options dictate whether treatment will be inpatient or outpatient. While we do not accept insurance for our residential treatment program, we are an out-of-network provider for our IOP. Ideally, participants in our (or any) outpatient program can bolster their recovery by living with like-minded people in a recovery setting such as Sacramento’s Clean & Sober Transitional Living.

Sometimes – after helping potential participants understand the fine print of co-pays and “out of pockets,” it’s clear that a residential treatment center accepting insurance may the best option.  In that case, we will help them find a local program that we believe will best meet their needs.

Sometimes people use up their insurance benefits initially in a residential treatment program that accepts their insurance. And when their insurance benefit is exhausted, they come to us to continue residential treatment in our affordable residential treatment program or our IOP.

By the way, we don’t view other local treatment options as competitors. Instead, we often work together to create a “daisy chain” of resources for people who seek sobriety. We are always looking out for the perspective participants’ best interests when we consult with them about treatment options. Yes, we are a business, but our true “bottom line” is sustained recovery for those who seek it.
