Resident Bill of Rights
- The resident has the right to considerate and respectful care in accordance with the basic philosophy of the alcohol and drug program.
- The resident has the right to obtain complete current information concerning his/her treatment and rehabilitation in terms and language he/she can understand.
- The resident has the right to refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law, however if the resident refuses treatment, they will be asked to leave the program.
- The resident has the right to every consideration of his/her privacy concerning their program. Case discussion, consultation, treatment, and financial information gathered is confidential and should be conducted discreetly. Those not directly involved in his/her care must have permission of the resident to be present, except where such privacy is impossible, as in screening or emergency care for intoxicated individuals.
- The resident has the right to expect that all communication and records pertaining to his/her care should be considered as confidential.
- The resident has the right to expect that within it’s capacity, the program and its contact agencies must make a reasonable response to the request of a resident for services. They must provide evaluation, service, and or referral as indicated by the type and or urgency of the situation.
- A resident will not be denied appropriate services because he/she has relapsed.
- The resident has the right to expect reasonable continuity of care. He/she has the right to know what and where services are available.
- The resident has the right to expect the program and its contact agencies to provide a mechanism whereby he/she is informed of his/her continuing needs and care requirements when he/she leaves the program.
- The resident has the right to be accorded dignity in contact with staff, volunteers, board members and other persons.
- The resident has the right to be accorded safe, healthful, and comfortable accommodations to meet his/her needs.
- The resident has the right to be free from verbal, emotional, physical abuse and/or inappropriate sexual behavior.
- The resident has the right to be free from discrimination based on ethnic groups identification, religion, age, sex, color, or disability.
- The resident has the right to be accorded access to his or her file with the supervision of an employee or an ADP representative.
- The resident has the right to be informed of the provision of law regarding complaints including but not limited to the address and telephone number of the department.
- The resident has the right to attend religious activities of their choice and to have visits from a spiritual advisor, provided that these services do not conflict with program requirements. Participation in religious services will be strictly voluntary.
